The City of Mykonos

The capital of the island, Mykonos town is exceptionally charming and considered as one of the most beautiful little towns of the Cyclades. The town is typical of the architecture of the island, with whitewashed cubic houses with flat roofs, blue doors and windows, narrow paved streets, flowered balconies and a picturesque and magic atmosphere that form a labyrinth . Several well conserved windmills and hundreds of tiny red-roofed churches enhances a flavor of culture and custom to the scene, improved even more by many museums and the historical ancient place of nearby Delos. However, considerably less picturesque than Santorini, visitors to Mykonos will find it comparable to the Greek version of Disneyland. Much of the landscape is obsviously put up for "show" fooling visitor families about its authenticity.

Most people leave to the beaches during the day, so early morning or late afternoon are the best times to wander the labyrinth of narrow streets. The complicated design was intended to confuse the pirates who plagued Mykonos in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and it still has the desired effect.
