Arrival to Chania

By Plane
The Island of Crete Island has two international airports. The larger and most important one is the one of Heraklion and the other one is at Chania. The city is operated by Chania International Airport (IATA code: CHQ) on the Akrotiri Peninsula. The airport is named after Daskalogiannis, a Sfakiot hero who was skinned by the Turks in the 18th century. There are various flights a day from Athens to Chania, with Aegean Airlines and Olympic Airlines, of about 40 minutes. From April to early November, there are many direct charter flights to Chania from the UK, Germany, Scandinavia and other European countries.

By Ferry
The harbors or ports of Crete Island are situated at Heraklion, Chania, Agios Nikolaos, Rethymno, Sitia and Kastelli-Kissamos. Ferries depart to and from Athens (Piraeus) daily - the port for ferries for Chania is at Souda bay, 7 km away. This is considered as the biggest and safest bay in the East Mediterranean. Travel by Ferries is particularly frequent during the summer months when Chania is crowded with visitors from Greece and abroad. The prices of ferry tickets to Chania (Hania) depend on the season and the type of ferry.
