Beef Stifado

Serves 6 Hot Beef Main Course Greece Europe Mediterranean Dairy Free Eggless

Ingredients:
  • 180ml/6fl.oz. Olive Oil
  • 1.3kg/3lbs Stewing Steak, cut into chunks
  • 1kg/2.2lb Button Onions
  • 180ml/6fl.oz. Red Wine Vinegar
  • 3 Tomatoes, diced
  • 1 large sprig Rosemary
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 2 Garlic Cloves, thinly sliced
  • Salt and Black Peppercorns
Preparation: 1. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan until very hot, add the meat and brown on all sides. 2. Add the onions to the pan and saut for about 5 minutes. 3. Add the remaining ingredients and enough water to just cover. Mix well, bring to the boil then reduce the heat slightly and simmer for 2 hours, until very tender. Serve hot. Back to: Greece Recipes
